Road Ready Safety
A state-approved online defensive-driving platform — and the AI tooling, courses, and data engine behind it.
The problem
Drivers who need to dismiss a ticket or lower insurance face a maze of confusing, fee-padded course options and court-specific rules. Course providers, meanwhile, have to build state-compliant curricula and keep them accurate as the law changes — a slow, expensive, error-prone process.
What I built
Road Ready Safety is a live online defensive-driving platform, state-approved across nine states. In Texas it ships a TDLR-approved 6-hour course at a flat $28 — no hidden fees, instant certificate, unlimited quiz attempts, no final exam. Around the product I built an entire support system: a live comparison/directory site, an AI legal-research bot, a competitor pricing scraper, and full state-compliant course curricula.
How AI was leveraged
AI is woven through the venture: Claude (Sonnet 4.6) with its web-search tool powers an automated legal-research bot that compiled Driver-Safety-Course procedures across 25 Texas municipal courts into structured, confidence-scored data; AI-assisted authoring and a legal-accuracy audit produced state-submission-ready course curricula verified against current statute.
Engineering highlights
- Live in 9 states; Texas course is TDLR-approved at a flat $28 with no hidden fees
- CourtResearchTX: a Claude web-search bot that researched 25 Texas courts with retry/auto-resume and confidence scoring (1,700+ lines of structured output)
- TX Competitor Scraper: Python + Playwright pipeline over ~150 sites with HTML-fingerprint duplicate detection to unmask white-label providers
- State-approved course curricula (Texas, Virginia DIC, Florida BDI) authored and legally audited against current statute
Inside the venture
The live TDLR-approved Texas course: $28 flat, instant certificate, court-accepted, with an eligibility checker.
Live comparison + directory site (txcourseguide.com) helping Texans pick an approved course by city, with an eligibility checker and court info.
Node.js bot using Claude + web-search to compile court DSC procedures into structured JSON with confidence levels.
Scrapes ~150 competitor sites for pricing/features; fingerprints HTML structure to group white-label templates.
Full Virginia DIC (16 modules, statute-audited) and Florida BDI courses authored for DMV submission, plus LMS import pipelines.
Outcome
Live and selling in 9 states. The flagship venture — product, AI tooling, data, and compliant content all built in-house.
